Velvet & Stone’s brand of female-fronted, indie-folk combines haunting soundscapes with catchy pop hooks and great songs – giving an original and beautiful take on a traditional genre. Crafting their live set on the festival circuit with performances at Cambridge Folk Festival, Celtic Connections, Larmer Tree and Somersault, among many others, they take their audiences on a journey from stunning soundscapes to foot-stomping folk-rock.
Led by the ethereal combination of Lara Snowdon’s vocals and songwriting, and Kathryn Tremlett’s violin, their music draws upon personal stories, melancholy tales and rugged landscapes, creating a sound that is difficult to forget. Weaving traditional threads through their song-writing, and combining them with folk-revival and contemporary flavours, they produce an evocative, raw and ethereal sound. Velvet & Stone have received a range of plaudits for their recorded music and live performances, and are likened to a twenty-first century Fairport Convention, with comparisons drawn with Mumford & Sons, Laura Marling and Seth Lakeman.
The band released their Live EP in October 2018; and their new single ‘High Tide‘ on 24th July 2018 in aid of Cancer Research UK, with 100% of profits going to the charity. Previous releases included ‘Raise Your Ghosts‘ in August 2017, The Embers EP in October 2017, and The Storm EP in April 2016. Their music has gained critical acclaim from across the music press, airtime on BBC Radio 2, BBC Radio Scotland and BBC Radio Wales and is championed by their local BBC Introducing team. In addition to regularly touring and playing at festivals across the UK, they are currently working on their debut album which will be released in 2019.
