Velvet & Stone’s brand of indie-folk combines haunting soundscapes with catchy pop hooks and great songs – giving an original and beautiful take on a traditional genre. Crafting their live set with performances at Cambridge Folk Festival, Celtic Connections and Somersault, they take their audiences on a journey from stunning soundscapes to foot-stomping folk-rock.

Led by the ethereal combination of Lara Snowdon’s vocals, and Kathryn Tremlett’s violin, Velvet & Stone’s music draws upon personal stories, melancholy tales and rugged landscapes, creating a sound that is difficult to forget. Their music has strong folk-revival influences combined with contemporary folk flavours, with comparisons drawn with Mumford & Sons, Bear’s Den and Seth Lakeman, combined with the feminine lyricism of Laura Marling and Lisa Hannigan.

The band released their new single High Tide on 24th July 2018 in aid of Cancer Research UK, with 100% of profits going to the charity. Previous releases included ‘Raise Your Ghosts‘ in August 2017, The Embers EP in October 2017, and The Storm EP in April 2016. Their music has gained plaudits from across the music press, airtime on BBC Radio 2, BBC Radio Scotland and BBC Radio Wales and is championed by their local BBC Introducing team. In addition to regularly touring and playing at festivals across the UK, they are currently working on their debut album which will be released in 2019.
